Artist Statement

In the winter of 2019 my grandfather. Richard Miller passed away. Personally, this was my first encounter with the process of death and dying. I created this video as a means of processing my grief. I found the process of ripping photographs to be cathartic. I specifically chose images of my grandfather depicting him as a child, a soldier, a father and a husband throughout his life. This is how I remember him. Through my research I encountered the term 'memento mori’ or remember death, the first video explores this idea, the second subverts it.
