Studio Interventions
An update regarding my studio work over the past week. Over the break I’ve re-focused and defined my senior thesis project. While still in the process of re-defining my problem statement; I know that I will be looking at how the family photographic archive is a metaphor for inherited family trauma.
I’m also making my studio work more intentional. My process over the course of next semester is twofold. One facet will focus on studio interventions. Re-shaping and redefining the vehicle of the family archive. The second facet is a documentary practice. I will be showing photographs to my family and recording their responses. The two practices will inform one another.
This week began by dumping all the slides onto the floor…
Then I took some photographs…
1300+ family slides in a pile on the ground in my studio.
Sweeping up family slides.
For me these studio inquiries are starting to get more narrowly focused, I’m looking at the core of what I’m interested. The archive it’self as a cultural artifact, and I’m beginning to explore ways I can activate space using the slides themselves.
Here are some additional studio images.
I brought a sculpture plinth from the video studio to see how it affects the photos.
Additionally I pinned up some of the more graphic elements I found in the slide boxes, including the protective Styrofoam and the instruction manuals for the projector. I’m particularly interested in the square pages that list 1-100, they could be an interesting interactive element for my installation
